Course Requirements
Cross-Cultural Seminar & Cross-Cultural Practicum (4-6 credits)
The Cross-Cultural Seminar & Cross-Cultural Practicum provide the academic framework and seminar-based learning to allow undergraduate students to learn how culture and cross-cultural disparities, differences, and communication are important to their chosen vocation. This course focuses on increasing cross-cultural competency through professional internships and integration into an Ugandan community. This course gives guidance to students through their day-to-day life and work in Uganda, helping them translate their learning to their unique vocation in a global context.
USP has strong partnerships with local service organizations. These partners provide excellent learning environments for students as they are mentored by an Ugandan professional. There is an identified field supervisor at each site who oversees the day-to-day activities and ensures that the specific, agreed-upon learning goals are being accomplished throughout the semester. Partner organizations include schools, child development centers, community-based organizations, public health programs and more.
